Today's thought is brought to us by Owen

“Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love”. -Gandalf

I wanted to do something different with my devotional this morning with a quote. While it is a quote from a fictional character in a movie, the quote itself is something I felt drawn to. I want to talk about being generous. It can come in many ways - gifts such as time, monetary or even food. But the generosity I want to focus on is our own and Gods’. I want to challenge myself and you with a question, have we been feeling generous?

It can be difficult to feel like we have been generous especially last year with the rules being stricter, and while they are slowly improving, we aren’t out of the woods yet. Being generous means “Showing a readiness to give more of something”. Now we can all say this when it comes to worship, we want to sing so badly, so desperately in church…but we can’t yet which is so frustrating! I am sure when we can, at first it might be a little awkward at first but I think we will burst out in praise when the time comes.

Gods has always been generous with us! taking the definition of generosity, we can apply it to John 3:16, He loved us so much He gave his only son. God showed us a readiness to give us more than something when Jesus went on the cross for our sins! he set us free and gave us a gift of eternal life in heaven and all we have to do is come back to him in praise and worship. What an amazing God we have!

With all that said how can we be more generous? Well God’s got the end of time for us so we should start by giving some more of our time to him. Whether that be in praise, praying or bible studying, spend time with God. Do you know of someone struggling or seen anyone in the community that needs help? Send that person a message, help that person by being the person God made you to be. Here are some bible verses below that talk on being generous and I think will help encourage this morning.

Luke 6:38
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Psalm 112:5
“Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.”

Acts 20:35
“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

Finally, here are some songs I feel fit with the devotional, have a blessed week.

Be still and know that I am God, I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46 v 10

This verse came to mind during a morning meeting, in the quiet stillness enjoying a time set aside to reflect on God’s love and goodness, I pondered this verse.

We look at what’s going on around the world at the moment, more warring nations, violence, total disregard for others, youngsters with little respect, but I take comfort knowing that God is in control and there will come a day when all will have to acknowledge Him.

Today take a little time to BE STILL AND ENJOY HIS PRESENCE.

Today's thought is from Mark

BUMPS
“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” James 1:2-4

“…For nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:37

A little boy was leading his sister up a mountain path and the way was not too easy. “Why this isn’t a path at all, ¨ the little girl complained. “Its all rocky and bumpy! ¨ Her little brother kept on up the mountain, pausing just long enough to call out, “Sure, but the bumps are what you climb on.”

Ever faced a bump in your path? We all do. Many of us try to go around it thinking that if we didn’t have it to deal with, we would be better off. How do we look at those challenges that we face in our daily lives? Do we see then as barriers or recognise that they are tough but necessary steps leading you onward and upward toward a stronger faith and a fulfilled life.

The troubles you faced in the past were tough... but you made it through them.

The troubles you are facing today are hard... some will tell you that what you want to do or where you want to go is impossible.

God says nothing is impossible!

Keep climbing… pushing yourself beyond what’s comfortable and easy…

Stretch yourself to the point where fear gives way to faith… Be ready to take on the world not based on the opinions of others but on what God’s word says.

And when you get to the peak of that mountain you are trying to climb... moving up and over all of those challenges... the view will be breath-taking.
